Dining at the Anchor & Hope is a low-key affair: portion sizes are generous and wine is served in tumblers rather than traditional glasses.
Critics often comment on the pub’s ‘Mediterranean’ feel, but that’s likely more to do with the relaxed, lively atmosphere than the stellar food, which is modern British to a tee.
Menu highlights have included grilled Orkney kipper with tatties; suet-crusted steak pie with buttered sprout tops for two; and baked vanilla and poppy seed cheesecake and raspberry sauce.
The pub offers a selection of lagers and ales as well as an extensive wine list.
The Anchor & Hope has become a firm fixture on the list that, given the consistent quality of food at the pub and goodwill among diners and fellow industry heads alike, is completely deserved.
