The pub is nestled in the rural village of Bridge, which is situated within the Nailbourne Valley just a short distance from the city of Canterbury. A long term listee on the 51-100 list, the pub has shot up to top 15 in 2024.
It was originally a coaching inn dating back to the 16th century and was once a bathing house. But now the Grade II listed pubs offers large open fireplaces during the winter and an outside bar for summer drinking and eating.
The menus change daily, but focus on seasonality and provenance, using many ingredients from ‘The Garden of England’. Choose from bar snacks of Maldon oysters, Josper grilled Padron peppers or whipped cod’s roe & tapioca crackers.
The daily menu has previously featured dishes such as starters of Scottish Langoustine, garlic butter & hollandaise. Why not follow up with a main of Gloucester Old spot pork chop with a multitude of delicious sides, or South coast hake, grilled leek, brown shrimp & warm tartar sauce.
Finish off your meal with a baked dark chocolate tart, Sea buckthorn caramel & vanilla ice cream or a tiramisu soft serve.
