It has been run by the Bowman family for over 30 years – leased to them by the Duchy of Lancaster, which owns a large portion of the village.
Current director of the Inn at Whitewell Charles Bowman oversees day-to-day operations, whilst head chef Jamie Cadman, who has worked at the Inn for 18 years, leads the small but highly skilled kitchen team in creating a menu of sumptuous dishes showcasing some of the best produce in the county.
As anyone who’s eaten well in Lancashire can tell you: it has great produce in spades. Dishes at the Inn often feature grouse and other game birds shot on the moors and delectable beef and lamb from the nearby Burholme Farm.
Menu highlights include seared king scallops wrapped in pancetta with pea puree; whole roast Goosnargh corn-fed poussin with sage and onion croquette, bread sauce and roasting gravy; and pan fried gnocchi with roast pepper and spinach, plum tomato sauce, toasted pine nuts, parmesan shaving and served with a rocket and baby mozzarella salad.
The bar serves a wide variety of beers, ciders, wines and spirits. On top of that, The Inn also features an expansive independent wine shop, called Bowland Forest Vintners, which sells a huge variety of bottles from various independent producers across the world.
