Located in the charming village of Holme-next-the-Sea along the breath-taking North Norfolk Coast, the Grade II listed White Horse near Hunstanton reopened last year after being taken over by Publican Award winners Anglian Country Inns (ACI).
Will Pryke, who has managed other ACI venues, is running the historic 18th century pub, while Ian Daw, who was head chef at The Hut on the Isle of Wight for three years, is heading up the kitchen.
ACI pubs focus on ensuring everything is locally sourced and reflects the history of the area.
The menu at The White Horse reflects the legacy of agriculture and fishing which is the story of this seaside village. History shows that fish traps found on the local beach date back to Anglo-Saxon times, reflecting Holme’s reliance on agriculture and fishing.
Menus, which change weekly, are crafted around local, seasonal produce from Norfolk and change with the seasons with the dishes reflecting the fresh ingredients that fishermen, farmers, and suppliers catch, grow and produce.
Dishes including Cromer crab crumpets; Howard & Sons pork sausage; Sandringham Farm mutton chops with mains dishes such as whole grilled plaice, tartare butter sauce’ cod cheek scampi, buttermilk and chilli on the menu.
The pub runs a weekly homemade curry night every Thursday which includes pig cheek rogan josh to prawn masala or monkfish keralan curry.
ACI, the 10-strong gastro pub food chain, has been successful for its commitment to local and specialised sourcing, and using the region’s finest produce. It is an award-winning family run business, which has been running for 27 years.
It describes itself as a company with family-run pubs, restaurants and inns that have an “enviable reputation” for great food, first-class cocktails, premium wines, punchy coffee and “friendly, charming and knowledgeable teams.”
The pub chain won the Premium Food Offer category at the highly coveted Publican Awards in 2024.
