The Merry Harriers is a historic pub in the picturesque village of Hambledon with origins dating back to the 16th century.
The village inn is in the heart of the Surrey Hills, eight miles south of Guildford, and is steeped in history, with old oak beams that stretch across the bar, restaurant dining areas and a roaring fireplace.
At the end of 2023 the pub was taken over by the innovative team of Alex Winch and Sam Fiddian Green, owners of the successful farm to table restaurant Hilltop Kitchen near Godalming, who purchased it from the De Savary family.
The pair have impressive food and drink credentials. Alex previously worked as a sommelier for Como Hotels and as a manager at Portland Restaurant and Smoke and Salt. While, Sam has worked as a pastry chef in a two Michelin-starred restaurant in Denmark.
The daily changing menu is inspired by great British classics and its ethos of ‘farm to fork dining’ centres around locally grown and seasonal produce based on what comes from their own farm.
Dishes on the menu include pan-roast duck breast, stuffed prune, confit shallot, bitter leaf & orange; crispy wintershall pork belly, hand-dived scallops, turnip purée & crispy pancetta and sharing platters including shepherd's pie with lamb from its farm and hispi cabbage.
The bar serves award-winning local ales, an innovative cocktail list and has a carefully curated wine list celebrating local wineries along classic regions from around the world.
The venue also has 15 boutique bedrooms including four rooms located on the first floor of the inn with ancient oak beams and contemporary and rural furnishings. There are six Garden Rooms adjacent to the large pub garden as well as its newest additions of five Shepherd’s Huts.
The pub has also been listed in the Good Food Guide’s best Sunday roasts of 2024.
