The Victoria in Oxshott, Surrey is this year’s one to watch. Simon King and Matt Larcombe founded the Victoria in the last year. Having worked with the likes of Heston Blumenthal and Gordan Ramsay, the pair are creating what they believe is the kind of gastropub they would like to visit. A community pub with exceptional food and drink, bringing elevated British classics and fine wine to Oxshott.
Upon entry, visitors can expect a quintessential British experience throughout with the pub’s roaring fire, traditional bar area and its garden. In addition, the dining areas have a traditional feel but with modern and comfortable décor that all point towards the investment that has taken place.
The front of house management are seasoned veterans of hospitality which creates a well-oiled machine, giving each guest the attention they need and ensuring no one is left unattended.
The team are equally adept at selecting a complementary wine or shaking up a cocktail. It would be an extremely picky punter not to find the drinks stocked sufficient.
A classic British menu gives comfort with dishes including wild halibut, clams, mussels & foraged sea vegetable broth; braised ox cheek, beef fillet, crispy potato, turnip and mushrooms; crispy pigs head, piccalilli, carrot and cucumber.
When the food arrives, customers see well-presented and selected ingredients, cooked well. The pastry chef is also worth a nod and diners are encouraged not to miss out on creative and delicious sweets on offer.
This year’s One to Watch, the Victoria in Oxshott hasn’t been around long but shows evidence of the promise of more.
